Contemporary Sculptors of Chicago - Sharon Bladholm

Just when she began thinking that I had left back for India, we met again.. at the CSI [Chicago Sculpture International] meeting, and then it was time to revisit her studio. Sharon Bladholm is my oldest artist friend in Chicago. We met way back in 2006, when I had just bought a new camera, and was photographing a strange "Pelican Flower".. at the Lincoln Park Conservatory. She too was there, with her easel, painting the flower. We talked a bit, and then became good friends, and then lost touch and then met again..

Today I visited her Opal Glass Studio, where she has been working for about 20 years. Her work is mostly inspired by nature, with particular fondness for pitcher plants. I saw a range of sketches and sculptures of various types of pitcher plants. But to me, her figure sculptures are the most fascinating, especially women in various reclining positions, with an aura of calm, cool, collected, independent and liberated confidence.

Work in Progress..
These days she is working on another public art piece for Openlands new Lakeshore Preserve based on soil creatures .. Here's work in progress, hopefully I will get pictures when the work is complete.
