Contemporary Sculptors of Chicago: Nicole Beck

Cold Spot: A Gulf Story

Continuing with my series on the contemporary sculptors of Chicago.. Here is Nicole Beck.. She has diversified skills specializing in steel and stainless steel, bronzes, wood, glass, mosaics and even landscapes. She has worked on a lot of public and private commissions and what impresses me most is her large-scale outdoor installations.

Off late, Nicole has been enjoying murals and mosaics. In fact, before meeting her, the two outdoor installations I had seen ["Cold Spot: A Gulf Story", and "Foxgloves and Fists"] are both mosaics and hugely popular with the public, especially children. But when I met her, I realized, she enjoys bronzes and steel installations, especially monumental projects. That's a very impressive diversified portfolio..

This post has three of her works..
- Cold Spot: A Gulf Story [mosaic]
- Foxgloves and Fists.. [Mosaic]
- Binary Project, 2000 [steel and bronze]
Binary Project 2000, is actually a collaborative effort by students of Gallery 37, with Lead Artists, Nicole Beck and Jim Brenner..

Foxgloves and Fists

And I have to write, not only her art is wonderful, and she herself is sweet, vivacious lady, very charming, very helpful. I so much enjoyed taking her photos..
