Preston Jackson: Sculptor, Painter, Guitarist, Teacher, and above all A Wonderful Person..

Some days indeed turn out to be, far better, than what one expects. There I was, at Preston Jackson Studio, with his remarkable bronze sculptures and paintings all round, taking what-so-ever pictures I wished, and in the room was Preston Jackson, sitting on the sofa, playing guitar, in the most melodious notes I've heard!! Believe me, I had never imagined this day!







And then, my conversation with him, was far more significant than this beautiful set-up. I soon realized that the day was much more consequential that just a photo-shoot of his work, when he talked about his art.. And to my surprise, he said.. Many people like my work, but very few understand it.. And then he went on to elaborate, how his art is about what he sees... Many of his works are related to women issues, and how he feels that women in our society are often dressed and prepped to please men and how often, women themselves do so..He talked about politics in art, and how it call kill the "artist" in a person. His own struggles and disappointments at being called "outsider" to the art world..
Preston advised me to cover more women sculptors of Chicago..



Interestingly, Preston also collects mug-shots of prisoners and often paints them, giving life to their lives..

After visiting his Studio, I met him again at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago [SAIC], where he has been teaching for the past 20 years. I talked with his students, and I got to say, they love him..Here's some of his students..

Now I want to go to his Bartonville Studio, to see him working on his latest project, "Save Our Planet".. He showed me a sketch of his work..
