Artist statement by Jason Hawk..
I'm a sculptor living and working in Chicago where I and 4 other artists opened Red Gate Studios. We run a metal shop and art foundry out of the space which is live/work. i work predominantly in metal both cast and fabricated. in my recent work I'm using the machine and its breakdown as a metaphor for the human spirit and our ingenuity as well as our mortality..

Artist Statement..
I'm an artist who grew up in L.A. and is currently working in Chicago. At this time sculpture is my primary focus, however my two dimensional work is never far detached. Recent works use a combination of assemblage and hand painted elements to narrate current trends in society and the individual’s role within it, more specifically focusing on identity. The narrative template plays a significant role in my work, which explores the relationships between parts to whole and the individual versus the masses. In this work in progress I’ve used the horse as a visual metaphor for conquest and assimilation..
