Continuing with my series on Contemporary Sculptors of Chicago..
Here's S. Thomas Scarff..
Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting with a stalwart in the Public Art scene of Chicago and it's vicinity, S.Thomas Scarff, popularly known as Tom Scarff. He has been curating, the tremendously successful PNC Odyssey Sculpture Exhibit, which last year celebrated it's 12th anniversary. He is already geared up for this year's show. I have a great respect for anyone who encourages younger artists, and Tom does exactly that, always bringing the works of emerging artists with the already established ones..
I am anxiously waiting for Spring for a visit to the PNC Sculpture Exhibit and then, there will be many more photos to share..





My personal favourite of his works is the "Memorial to the Fallen 21 and Chicago Firefighters". I have always believed that commemorating human tragedy is a very difficult topic to address. How does one make respectful public art, honoring the death, destruction, and the horror associated with an unfortunate calamity. And here I see it done so skillfully. The memorial generates feelings of regard, reverence and tribute to the Fallen heroes of the tragedy.

Tom loves painting. This one I saw in his Sedgwick Studio at Old Town.. Many of his paintings are in home studio in Michigan City, which I will be visiting soon.

There will definitely be more posts on Tom Scarff, as I visit the Purdue North Central [PNC] University, to take photographs of the works of many artists, as part of Odyssey Sculpture Exhibit that Tom has been curating for the past 12 years...
As soon as spring arrives..
Waiting anxiously for spring.. so much to do..
