The Runners - by Prof. Theodoros Papagiannis [Final stages: Landscaping]
City of "The Runners"..
This latest addition to Chicago's Public Art collection, is a gift to Chicago by the Athens Committee of the Chicago Sister Cities International Program. I have been following the Runners for a long time now. The scupture has been made to last for more than a thousand years. No Kidding!!! These are special vessel grade stainless steel, two-&-quarter-inches thick, and there is about 5 foot of concrete below the surface and everything that has gone in the concrete, including the rebars, have been coated with non-corrostive elements.
Prof. Theodoros Papagiannis, sculptor of The Runners. Check out the Theodoros Papagiannis Museum of Contemporary Art, in Elliniko, Ioannina, Greece. click here..
Mr. Demetrois Kozonis, Chairman of Athens Committe, very closely associated with the installation of The Runners..
The groundcover around the installation is Purple Wintercreeper Euonymus fortunei 'Coloratus'. Landscaping is by Christy Webber Landscapes, click here..
Can you tell what time of the day it was, seeing the shadow?
From left: Manuel Vargas, Miguel Aguayo, Renaldo Patino, Jorge Nunes and Felemon Torres..
Planes, trains, automobiles and The Runners..
Now it's hard to believe that about a month back, the place looked like this...

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure I can run faster than those sculptures! :p
Congrats on the great addition to Chicago's public art.
Jason,
You may run faster, but you will soon get tired... They will keep running for a thousand years!
Thanks for your comment!
Indeed a great addition!
