Ten Oldest Sculptures of Chicago

Above Image: - Drexel Fountain - by Henry Manger..

One fine day, I got curious about the early sculptures of Chicago, which were installed before 1900, and can still be found at public places.. This got me into perparing this list of the Ten Oldest sculptures of Chicago.. All these are between the period 1864-1890.. Soon I will list sculptures between 1890-1900..

Note the complete absence of abstract sculptures.. Correct me if I'm wrong, till the 1940's, I don't think there's any abstract sculpture in Chicago. The first abstract sculpture, at a public place in Chicago, was "Red Petals" [1942] by Alexander Calder, in the lobby of Arts Club of Chicago.. We all know that after the installation of "Untitled" [popularly known as Picasso] by Pablo Picasso in the Daley Plaza, in 1967, there was a profusion of abstract sculptures in Chicago.. But which are the earliest abstract sculptures in Chicago? Now this is another topic I would love to work on..
However, today, I begin with the ten earliest sculptures in Chicago..

This deserves a special mention.. Although I could not find information on when it was cast, it's made from the mold of the original sculpture from Greece, circa 200 BC.. Now the original is in the Louvre Museum, Paris, France..
