Peace Triumphant - World War I Monument

The monument includes three bronze statues representing the Army, Navy and Air Force, guarding the heroic female figure of Columbia, who serves as a symbol of liberty, social justice and equality. The memorial includes names of 2,446 residents who served in World War I from Oak Park and River Forest.

Peace Triumphant - World War I Monument
The Peace Triumpant Monument was erected to honor veterans of World War I who hailed from Oak Park and River Forest.
The monument includes three bronze statues representing the Army, Navy and Air Force, guarding the heroic female figure of Columbia, who serves as a symbol of liberty, social justice and equality.
The memorial includes names of 2,446 residents who served in World War I from Oak Park and River Forest.
No tax money was involved in its original construction. Residents raised $60,000 to pay for the monument and its upkeep for several years.
The dedication was held on Armistice Day (now Veterans Day) in Nov,1925; with the US Vice President Charles Gates Dawes ammong the atendees.
Peace Triumphant was completely restored in 2010, and a rededication ceremony was held 83 years after its original dedication.
The monument is the centerpiece of Scoville Park, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of Interiors.
