Grant Park: Balbo Monument
Balbo was a fascist and the monument was a gift from Mussolini to the people of Chicago for their generosity in naming a street in honor of Balbo after the 1933 worlds fair held at Chicago.

Chicago is definitely a tolerant city. If this were New York It would have been destroyed.
Tolerance should have nothing to do with it. The column is very likely the most ancient (and priceless) artifact in Chicago Park District's possession. Besides, human intervention is not necessary, since climate and neglect are doing a pretty good job of destroying this monument on their own.
