Deborah Butterfield has made a series of sculptures depicting horses. She herself is an accomplished equestrian, and her art shows horses not in realistic form, but more like impressions of horses. She uses wide variety of materials, including wood, scrap metal and old pipes and usually these are cast in bronze.
While her horse sculpture 'Cabin Creek" at Frederick Meijer Sculpture Park, has a prime spot, and is much advertised, her sculpture in Chicago is hardly known. "Ben", by Deborah Butterfield is in Seneca Park, a quaint little park, close to the Museum of Contemporary Art. In a way it is fun to discover great work of art at most unexpected places. And also, it provides an opportunity to observe the work from close quarters. here are some images of Ben by Deborah Butterfield..

and is out in the open, facing the rough Chicago weather, through the seasons..
