When an artist chooses another artist to honor, it is always wise to select one whose style compliments their own. “Prairie Town Dweller” is Nicole Beck’s homage to the celebrated architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Beck has taken the lines and angles, the lessons about economy of space and simplicity to fruition but what the artist and the architect truly have in common is their use of light. Lloyd Wright’s seamless designs and innovative uses of space and furniture made him famous, but his introduction of abundant natural light into the American home will forever be his legacy.

Beck is a master at creating vivid mosaic work. “Prairie Town Dweller” fills a shining stainless steel frame with open spaces and dazzling tile work that catch, reflect and filter sunlight- simply and majestically accenting light where it otherwise may have gone unnoticed...

Thank you jyoti! esp. love the succession of photos that traverse the body of the sculpture. Am not a fan of the LSE catalogue verbage of this piece though. I would write: This work riffs on a famed Chicago Robie House window, paring away elements to reveal a ten-foot female muse in honor of FLW. Of course outdoor works cannot utilize the same quarter sawn oak & stained glass that Frank favored- so this piece is fabricated from stainless steel & bright mosaic using colors inspired by the master.

Love the site, thanks for sharing. This is a great piece, now I want to see it in person! I took a picture in the conservatory years ago and was trying to find the name of the sculpture of the girl, none of the official sites I found had it listed, but you did. Thanks for helping me name my photo!
